Tramping
Ahurei Adventures offers one to five day guided walks in
the beautiful, untouched wilderness of the Waiau valley of Te Urewera
National Park. This is a total escape to a very remote region of New
Zealand - one of the last undiscovered gems. Our treks take you through
this magnificent indigenous rainforest, with its abundance of native
birds. Your host and guide Richard White is from the local Tuhoe tribe.
He has immense experience in the bush and can share fascinating stories
of the region's histories and mysteries.
The formed tracks cover fairly rugged terrain and are of
moderate difficulty. Be prepared to get your feet wet – between the main
road and the Totara Hut there are 96 river crossings! At the start or
end of your walk enjoy a night at White’s Clearing - one of the very few
places in the world where you can see wild deer grazing all around. Or
spend a night at the very special Oputao Marae with the warm and
welcoming White family.
Ahurei Adventures makes it easy, organizing everything
you need including shuttles to and from the start of the treks, packhorses, equipment, vehicle security,
accommodation for overnight treks, and food.
