Horse Treks
Our horse treks provide a total escape to the quiet, untouched wilderness of the Waiau River valley in Te Urewera National Park. With its magnificent indigenous rainforest, and abundance of native birds the Waiau valley is a very special place.
Your local and very experienced host and guide Richard
White was born and bred in this area. He takes small groups of up to
three at a leisurely pace sharing his knowledge of the animals and
plants that you will see, fascinating historical sites, and personal
stories of life in this remote part of New Zealand.
Ahurei Adventures
can take
both beginner and experienced riders. Our
treks generally range from 2 hours to 2 days but longer treks
can also be arranged. At the start or end of your horse trek
enjoy a night a White’s Clearing - one of the very few places in the
world where you can see wild deer grazing all around. Or you can stay at
the very special Oputao Marae.
Ahurei Adventures makes it easy, organising everything
you need including horses, riding equipment, vehicle security,
accommodation for overnight treks, and food.
